This site was built using Indexhibit, a web presentation platform that divide's the browser into two sections:

1. Index, left margin, lists exhibit/project titles in chronological order.

2. Exhibit, right column, is an exhibit/project display area.

Each index item links to an exhibit/project. Click an index item to view the exhibit/project in the display area. The two parts form a exhibition space that can accommodate a variety of content. If there are thumbnails click on them for expanded views.

Invitation

If you would like to build a website using the Indexhibit structure visit www.indexhibit.org to download the Indexhibit CMS (content management system). You can create a website without specialist software and with little web experience. Indexhibit is browser based, open source and free of charge.

The aim of Indexhibit is to create a community of users who place emphasis on their work first and foremost. Each user is added to the user list, and in return is asked to provide a link to this page, to encourage others to use Indexhibit.

History

The original structure was designed by Daniel Eatock in 2001 as a presentation platform for Foundation 33 to compile an eclectic output of projects and break with the pigeonholing of disciplines. It is intended to be recessive and archetypal, allowing the content to come to the forefront.

In 2004 Daniel invited others to replicate the structure. During two years over 200 people responded, forming a community web project promoting content over complicated website designs.

In 2006/7 Vaska created the Indexhibit CMS system in collaboration with Daniel, making it easier for people to replicate the structure, and improve the sites functionality. Indexhibit was built with web standards in mind (no longer using frames for instance) enabling search engines and users alike easy access and indexing of work. Content flows to the edge of the browser, images can be displayed as thumbnails that can be enlarged etc., this is a break from traditional fixed layout design associated with print, and a move towards an interactive experience where the user creates their own viewing experience. This embraces recent interactive display methods as used on popular websites like Google Images and Flickr.
